Before we look at the 10Micron Centaurus II tripod, we thought we’d just write a short blog about the tripod’s storage and carry bag.
The Centaurus II tripod is made for use with the 10Micron GM2000 Monolithic and Ultraport mounts and can also be used with the GM1000 mount for extra sturdiness too. The tripod is supplied with a storage/carry bag as standard, and both items are packed together in a long (110 x 35 x 35 cm approx) sturdy cardboard box for safe transport.
Upon opening the box you are greeted with “CENTAURUS 10micron.com” written in yellow diagonally across the long black bag, which is made of strong durable Cordura, and which contains the Centaurus II tripod inside it. The tripod bag is approximately 30cm in diameter and 1 metre in length.
There is a carry handle in the middle of the bag that allows you to easily lift the tripod out of the box, and when of course, transporting the tripod too. The handle is made up of two individual straps that Velcro together producing a larger, thicker sized handle (see below), for easy and comfortable carrying. The position of these central handles are slightly offset, for balance purposes, with them being sewn closer to the (heavier) mount attachment end of the tripod bag; This allows the bag to be roughly horizontal when the tripod is being transported. An additional single carry strap is also located on the flat circular non-zipped (mount attachment) end of the tripod bag (see above, left). This flat padded end allows the possibility of the tripod to be stored vertically (with caution – in case of it being accidentally knocked and thus toppling over) providing that the four mount attachment bolts and the azimuth pin are removed (leaving a flat plate on the top of the tripod).
A heavy duty zipper runs from the tripod feet end to the “top” (mount attachment end) of the tripod bag. Once the zipper is fully opened, the 10Micron Centaurus II tripod can be very easily removed from its bag, thanks to large opening and the smooth inner lining. If the tripod legs or feet are dirty after being used and the tripod is stored in the bag, the inner lining can be easily cleaned.
Finally, and quite importantly, the whole of the bag is very well padded to keep the tripod safe during transport and whilst in storage.
